The park consists of forest, swamps, lakes, and fields. There are hiking paths throughout the park including and elevated boardwalk over the swamp land so you can safely get a closer look at the wildlife. You are likely to see fish, turtles, lizards, birds, alligators, armadillos, and possibly even snakes. Remember, do you feed the wildlife! After hiking around the park, there are many great locations and pavilions to have a picnic so make sure to bring a picnic lunch with you. Most of the pavilions are near parking areas so you won’t have to carry a cooler or picnic basket very far unless you want to. You can enjoy a picture lunch while looking over the water or watching a gopher tortoise dig.
I almost forgot to mention, there is also an education center near the main office with information on all of the flora and fauna you are likely to see in the park. This helps you make your visit both fun and educational. One of the best parts about this excursion is that it is completely free! All you have to do is get yourself to the park and there is no charge for entrance or parking.
